CBC: It’s a “bungle”! No it’s a “blunder”! Hang on: it’s a “gaffe”!

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 13:28:14 PDT
It ain’t good, that’s for sure! Just yesterday I had to update my Monday blog entry because the fair and balanced state-owned CBC Newsworld kept changing its mind about the Conservative government’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Bernier, and how to officially describe his, um, verbal malfunction. On Monday I showed you how Canada’s cable news networks—the state-owned one and the citizen-owned one against which they compete—instructed us to think of the Conservative Minister of For

Thu, 24 Apr 2008 16:05:20 PDT
As things continue to get worse word comes that even Sam’s Club (owned by Wal-Mart) is beginning to limit the amount of rice that customers can purchased… better known as rationing its product. The two biggest U.S. warehouse retail chains are limiting how much rice customers can buy because of what Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., called on Wednesday “recent supply and demand trends.” The broader chain of Wal-Mart stores has no plans to limit food purchases, however. Oil up! Freak out! Dow up? Shut up!

Fri, 18 Apr 2008 13:28:14 PDT
The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. (Of course they don’t have the foggiest clue what they’re talking about, but they pretend they do.) Even as I was writing this, the state-owned CBC did a story about the latest rise in gas prices. Apparently it’s getting higher. You can tell because they const

A news junkie’s dream …. or nightmare

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:46:47 PDT
I am a news junkie and admittedly if I had cable plus the extra TV I would probably have either CNN or CBC Newsworld on the whole time I’m in my room I jokingly call my office. So when I saw Brian Solis’ post about local broadcast news going social I was at first rather skeptical of the the idea; after all everything these days is having the social sticker slapped on its ass like it is going to be the road to instant riches or something. But when I clicked on the LiveNewsComeras.com link (go

WHO, THE - Quadrophenia (1973)

Wed, 16 Apr 2008 16:32:17 PDT
When this arrived in the mail several weeks ago it marked the first time I had sincerely listened to Quadrophenia as a serious work of art. That’s embarrassing, being a huge Who fan, but it’s the honest truth. When I bought the LP in late ’73 my head wasn’t much into hard rock any more so, after a few cursory spins, I shelved and eventually sold my vinyl copy. What led me to reexamine this landmark album was the adoration I found in the reviews on this site and I’m glad I did because, other

I've seen a number of press releases from i2Telecom lately. At least one I glossed over because they announced they were the first with a product comparable to a solution I wrote about nearly 16 months ago. Me too never impresses me much, and claiming to be first that far behind the curve does even less to impress me. What strikes me here is the idea that they can deliver dual-mode functionality to any handset. Sure, I've got multiple WiFi-enabled handsets, but I'm really keen for dual-mode fun
